I Am Legend is to be given a follow-up with Will Smith potentially returning as lead.
Warner Bros has sealed a deal with Akiva Goldsman and Overbrook Entertainment to produce another instalment of the 2007 sci-fi blockbuster, Deadline reports.
The studio wants Smith to return to the property, although he is said to be waiting for the script – written by The Expatriate’s Arash Amel – before signing on.
It is not yet known whether the movie will take the form of a sequel or a prequel.
Back in 2008, the original movie’s director Francis Lawrence revealed that he was working on a prequel, with Smith on board to return as virologist Robert Neville.
Later, a report indicated that the project was being reworked as a sequel, before being subsequently shelved.
I Am Legend was based on Richard Matheson’s 1954 novel of the same name.
