Captain America 2 confirmed, release date announced

9 Apr

Captain America 2 is definite, and will be arriving in April 2014, Marvel and Disney have confirmed…

The first part of this story is no surprise to any human being who comes within contact of this website: Marvel is making Captain America 2. Given that it’s locked down Chris Evans to at least three Captain America movies, and three Avengers flicks, you can pretty much map out the release pattern for the next decade or so at this rate.

The second part is the new bit: Marvel has now confirmed exactly when we can expect it. And as it has done for every summer for the past few years, it’s bagged the spot of the first blockbuster of the summer season. The summer season 2014, that is, and Captain America 2 will fly out of the traps on April 4th 2014.

The film will pick up from where Joss Whedon’s The Avengers movie leaves the character, although right now, we could tell you when or where that is. We still await news of who will direct, too.

Marvel still has another movie planned for the summer of 2014, though. It’s unlikely to be Avengers 2 – our guess for that is summer 2015 – so might it finally be Ant-Man? Or perhaps a new standalone Hulk film? Start your speculation

Captain America: The First Avenger is heading our way—it’ll be here July 22—so it’s about time we got our first clear, crisp look at Captain America’s super archnemesis the Red Skull!

Entertainment Weekly debuted a pic of actor Hugo Weaving (yes, he’s underneath all that red makeup) as the nefarious Nazi.

While good ol’ scrawny Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) will be turned by the U.S. army into the super-fit super-soldier Captain America, this is what Nazi experiments will do to weapons developer Johann Schmidt.

Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye to appear in Thor Movie

30 Dec

The final week of 2010 wouldn’t be a normal week without Marvel drip-feeding us some “news” about their ever-approaching Avengers-building slate.

This week’s revelation is that Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye (perhaps the best piece of Marvel casting since Bobbie Downey Jr looked into rust prevention) will be plucking his bow in Kenneth Branagh’s Thor.

Oscar-nommed Hurt Locker star Renner’s appearance has been confirmed by a “secret source” (shhhhhhh!) from the production to Movieline, even after he had denied the original rumour.

The same source also confirmed Samuel L. Jackson’s absence from the flick as eye-patched Nick Fury, with Clark Gregg’s Agent Coulson holding the SHIELD end up this time – are they saving big Nick for Captain America perhaps? Surely they won’t wait until the Avengers, especially given Jackson’s multi-film deal?

Avengers movie to feature Skrull-Kree War?

27 Dec

Marvel Studios behemoth The Avengers will begin shooting in Albuquerque, New Mexico next spring, and a local newspaper has possibly revealed some blockbuster news about the storyline.

An Albuquerque resident and Aint It Cool News reader picked up a copy of the Albuquerque Journal on Christmas Eve and, in a story about the production coming to the local Albuquerque Studios for a good six months or so, noticed this line: “The Avengers’ script will blend Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger story lines as the Avengers battle with two alien races, the Skrulls and the Kree.”

The Kree-Skrull war has played a major role in numerous Marvel Comics storylines, centering around an ongoing conflict between the somewhat humanoid Kree and the more malevolent shape-shifting Skrulls. The battle has come to Earth repeatedly, with the Skrulls impersonating both superheroes and figures in the highest reaches of government.

The Journal article gives no source for the plot information, so it’s difficult to say whether this is official news or not. What is known, however, is that the plots of both Thor and Captain America (out next May and July, respectively) will lead into The Avengers, and it’s confirmed that the powerful Skrull device known as the Cosmic Cube will appear in Captain America.

The Avengers, which comes out in 2012, will also shoot in Michigan and New York, where most of the action allegedly takes place.

‘Avengers’ movie to shoot in New Mexico

25 Dec

Marvel’s forthcoming Avengers movie will reportedly shoot in New Mexico.

According to Marvel Studios, production on the superhero movie will begin between April and September of 2011.

In a statement, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson called the upcoming Avengers shoot “our biggest production to date” and said that the film would be “the most technologically advanced” ever produced in the state.

He added: “I’m announcing this as a Christmas present of sorts to the people of New Mexico. This is a perfect example of the incredible job creation, economic impact and global visibility this industry has brought our state over the past eight years, and of the need to keep it moving forward.”

Joss Whedon is directing The Avengers, which will star Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson.

Additional scenes for the movie will be shot in Michigan and New York.
