NBC Passes On New ‘Wonder Woman’

13 May

NBC hasn’t officially announced its schedule for the 2011-12 season but it looks like “Wonder Woman” will not be part of the Peacock’s line-up.

As previously reported, David E. Kelley’s “Wonder Woman” has been receiving a mixed response following limited screenings with some viewers being left disappointed by the attempt to revive the show.

NBC was also disappointed it seems and Entertainment Weekly is reporting that the network has passed on the option to send the pilot to series.

Based on a script by “Ally McBeal” writer David E. Kelley, the new series would have given the DC character three identities that would complicate her life as a hero as well as her love life. In the comics, Diana Prince was the civilian identity of Wonder Woman. In this adaptation though, Diana was also known as Diana Themyscira, the chief executive officer of Themyscira Industries.

And just to complicate things, Diana will have a love interest for each of her identities.

Since it was announced, “Wonder Woman” has seen a noticeable backlash both from fans of the original comics and fans of the Lynda Carter series. Amongst the elements being criticized is Adrienne Palicki’s costume.

Kelley’s series featured the controversial #600 costume, which received a lot of negative feedback from fans of the comics. The outfit also came with a whole new timeline and origin for the character and the resulting criticism helped attract readers to the comic series.

Following a similar backlash when Palicki’s costume was unveiled, the outfit was re-designed and official statements insisted that shorts would come into the series eventually.

It is unclear if the pilot episode will be released in some form or another like the failed CW pilot for DC’s “Aquaman.”

Lots has been said about David E. Kelley’s new take on DC’s pre-eminent superheroine, and little of it has been good. But all of those opinions have been based on little more than casting sheets and illicitly obtained copies of the pilot script. But now we’ve got our first eyeful of Adrienne Palicki as Diana, Princess of Themyscera

Liz Hurley Cast As The Villain In Wonder Woman Pilot

4 Mar

Brit actress, model and OK magazine comun filler Liz Hurley has confirmed on Twitter that she’s been cast as the villain in the pilot of David E Kelley’s Wonder Woman makeover.

“Thrilled to be doing the NBC pilot Wonder Woman,” she writes. “I’ll be playing the evil villain. Can’t wait.”
Liz Hurley has previously performed the task of looking attractive but vacant in Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me and Bedazzled.

Adrienne Palicki will play Wonder Woman in NBC’s reboot series

After an exhaustive search that nobody heard much about, other than the casting sheet that circulated yesterday, David E. Kelley’s Wonder Woman TV series has landed its leading lady. And if you were a fan of the stellar Friday Night Lights, you’ll be rather pleased with the choice.

Adrienne Palicki, who stole hearts as Dillon High’s social magnet in Friday Night Lights—and who probably hopes you’ve forgotten her role as the pregnant mother who survives an angel fight in the eminently forgettable Legion—has landed the multifaceted role of Diana Prince/Diana Themyscira/Wonder Woman in NBC’s pilot.

Every alter-ego will also have its own love interest

Adapting a DC comic property for the small screen is no easy task. But already “Wonder Woman” is receiving a mixed reaction from fans of the Amazonian Princess.

And now the latest snippets leaking out about the series have given readers more reasons to worry.

NBC has revealed that the new series, which is based on a script by “Ally McBeal” writer David E. Kelley, will introduce a third identity for the heroine. In the comics, Diana Prince was the civilian identity of Wonder Woman. That will hold true in the upcoming series. However Diana will also be known as Diana Themyscira, the chief executive officer of Themyscira Industries.

But just to complicate things, Diana will have a love interest for each of her identities.

Diana Themyscira will become close to her confidante Henry Demeter, Diana Prince will be on the radar of Ed Indelicato (who helps her with his ties to local police), while Wonder Woman herself hits it off with Steve Trevor.

Casting is still underway for each role with wild speculation ranging from “Smallville’s” Erica Durance to “Transformers” star Megan Fox as being candidates for the title role. Realistically, it is too soon to even speculate on who will become the new face of the comic book property as producers have only recently commenced a casting search for the lead.

Eligible actresses are being described as a “muscular actress in her late 20s to 30s with flowing black hair and blue eyes who is able to kick butt.”

Contrary to previous reports, director McG has passed on the option to helm the pilot episode due to a scheduling conflict. Jeffrey Reiner, who has previously directed episodes of NBC’s “The Event,” has signed on to re-introduce “Wonder Woman” to the small screen.

McG out, Caprica director in for that Wonder Woman TV pilot

With director and executive producer McG out of the running for the directing job on the David E. Kelley Wonder Woman TV pilot, another interesting name has popped up for the Wonder gig. Here’s a clue: the guy directed the Caprica pilot.

Deadline reports that Jeffrey Reiner (NOT actor Jeremy Renner) is coming close to a deal with NBC to direct the much talked about Wonder Woman TV pilot for NBC.

Reiner is no stranger to directing sci-fi, having directed the Caprica TV pilot as well as a couple of episodes of The Event and the short-lived Surface. The Friday Night Lights former director and executive producer would probably be a great shoo-in for the gig.

As for McG, they say that he had to drop out of the talks with NBC because of a scheduling conflict with a feature commitment. (It may also have something to do with the director’s well-known fear of flying; the gig would have required airplane travel.)
