Syfy Greenlights ‘Alphas’

8 Dec

New sci-fi procedural show from X-Men: The Last Stand writer

Syfy has given a green light to a new sci-fi series called Alphas (though that’s a working title), according to The Hollywood Reporter, commissioning a 90-minute pilot and 11 episodes. The show has been created by writers Zak Penn (X-Men: The Last Stand, The Avengers, The Incredible Hulk) and Michael Karnow, and is about a team of supernatural civilians with extraordinary mental and physical abilities who become an unofficial crime solvers for the CIA, FBI and Pentagon. According earlier reports (this series has been bubbling away at Syfy for a while) the superpowers also come with an associated curse.

The cast includes David Strathairn, Warren Christie, Malik Yoba, Laura Mennell, Ryan Cartwright and Azita Ghanizada. Callum Keith Rennie from Battlestar Galactica will guest star in the pilot, which will be directed by Lost’s former director-in-chief Jack Bender. The show will be shot in Toronto and is expected to premiere on Syfy next summer.
