Twilight film in “not gut-wrenchingly awful” shocker? No, we haven’t been glamoured; we’re as surprised as you.

The story lends itself to a more cinematic, reluctant-boyfriend-friendly narrative, for a start. Following on from New Moon’s seven-year-sulk, Eclipse picks up on the eve of war, with the testy Edward/Bella/Jacob love triangle unspooling alongside the rise of a new-born vamp army. Rachel (franchise newbie Dallas Howard) – still out for blood after the murder of her partner – is the one leading the charge against the Cullens and Jacob’s Quileute werewolf tribe. They form an uneasy alliance to protect Bella, who faces her own life-changing decisions about any future with Edward.

As Harry Potter has already proven, the right director can make all the difference when it comes to invigorating a stalled franchise, and 30 Days Of Night helmer David Slade infuses this third entry with the kind of visceral set-pieces, knowing humour and more measured melodrama that the saga has been sorely lacking. The script’s still saturated with clunking dialogue and cack-handed self-importance that all but Twi-hards will find laughable; but it helps that Bella is less wet blanket, more damp paper towel this time – infinitely more likeable as she takes the wheel of her own life story. She even smiles at least twice.

Slade’s frequently striking cinematography (taking in snow-covered peaks and an ominous Seattle skyline) and a pacier structure make Eclipse much more palatable than previous entries, but devotees will still lap it up for undead-disco-ball Edward’s bumper screentime, bonus shirtless action and the aching teen-romance wish-fulfilment. Though the latest chapter in the angsty tween saga won’t be enough to win over R-Pattz, K-Stew and, um, Abz-Man haters – anyone prepared to jump off the bandwagon might just find themselves enjoying Eclipse more than they expected.

Summit Entertainment has finally confirmed that “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” will conclude the franchise as two films.

Production will begin this fall in Vancouver. The first installment will hit theaters Nov. 18, 2011; however, there’s no word on when the second movie will arrive.

“Dreamgirls” director Bill Condon will direct. Melissa Rosenberg, who penned the previous “Twilight” movies, is returning to script.

Also back aboard are stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. In addition, the studio has locked in the return of the key supporting players, including Peter Facinelli, Jackson Rathbone, Elizabeth Reaser, Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed and Ashley Greene.

Meanwhile, David Slade’s (“30 Days of Night,” “Hard Candy”) “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” is set for a June 30 release.

Potential salary disagreement ends; everyone is back for final ‘Twilight’ film

Negotiations with the actors of several supporting characters in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” have successfully concluded after a week of speculation that Summit Entertainment may drop them due to a salary disagreement.

With Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner already aboard, the studio announced Wednesday that Jackson Rathbone (Jasper), Elizabeth Reaser (Esme), Peter Facinelli (Carlisle) and Billy Burke (Charlie) signed to reprise their roles.

Kellan Lutz (Emmett), Ashley Greene (Alice) and Nikki Reed (Rosalie) also recently closed deals to return.

Previously, actress Rachelle Lefevre (Victoria) was replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard for “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” due to an alleged salary conflict.

As Stephenie Meyer’s final chapter in the four-book series, “Breaking Dawn” may be split into two films, but Summit Entertainment has not confirmed this rumor. Regardless, it’s set to open in theaters Nov. 18, 2011.

“Dreamgirls” director Bill Condon will helm the film. He earned an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay in 1999 for “Gods And Monsters,” and he was nominated for a second Oscar for his screenplay for the movie musical “Chicago” in 2003.

Melissa Rosenberg, who’s penned the previous “Twilight” movies, is returning to script. Wyck Godfrey, Karen Rosenfelt and Meyer will produce.

Meanwhile, David Slade’s (“30 Days of Night,” “Hard Candy”) “Eclipse” is set for a June 30 release.

Plus, Bill Condon blogs about directing the final Twilight film

Some new pics of the next Twilight film above, and some news about the final Twilight movie below…

Recently-announced Twilight: Breaking Dawn director Bill Condon has blogged about his new job on the film’s Facebook page:

“Greetings Twihards, Twifans, Twilight Moms, Team Edward, Team Jacob and Team Switzerland,

“I just want to say hello to all of you and let you know that I’m stoked to be getting underway on the adventure of making Breaking Dawn. As you’ve probably heard, I’ve been given a very warm welcome by Stephenie and Team Summit – who are super-focused, as you know, on getting these movies right.

“I’m pretty busy bringing myself up to speed on what you already know by heart: I’ve read Breaking Dawn twice, rewatched Catherine’s and Chris’s movies 2-3 times each, have all four CDs playing in my car, and have Catherine’s notebook, Mark Cotta Vaz’s companion books, and even Volume One of the graphic novel here on my desk – a corner of my office is starting to look like Hot Topic. I realize that this barely qualifies me for ‘newborn’ status in the universe you’ve been living inside for a few years now, but a guy’s gotta start somewhere.

“Like many of you, I’ve always been slightly obsessed with vampires, dating back to the prime-time series Dark Shadows, which I followed avidly as a kid. But that alone hadn’t been enough to get me interested in making a vampire movie, even though my early screenwriting and directing efforts grew out of a great love for horror movies and thrillers. Since making Gods And Monsters thirteen years ago, however, I’ve been yearning for a return to a story with Gothic overtones.

“The wonderful world that Stephenie has created has obviously struck a chord with you, and I don’t think it’s difficult to see why. For me, her characters are simultaneously timeless, yet very modern. Rooted in a beautiful, real landscape with a great sense of place, Bella, Edward, Jacob, and the rest of the Forks/La Push menagerie, experience emotions that are primal, and universal: desire, despair, jealousy – and it all comes to fruition in Breaking Dawn. This is a final chapter in the best sense; not just wide in scope and scale, but emotionally charged and intense throughout.

“I’m a huge admirer of the already-iconic Kristen, Robert, and Taylor, and wanted to be the one to work with them as they face the challenges of bringing your beloved characters to the end of their journeys. Really, what could be more fun than that?”

Twilight : Victoria Wreaks Havoc In ‘Eclipse’

First image of Bryce Dallas Howard’s ‘Twilight’ role released

The first photo of Bryce Dallas Howard as the evil vampire Victoria in the upcoming film “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” was recently released.

In the image, Victoria — a role previously played by Rachelle Lefevre — teams with her boy-toy Riley (Xavier Samuel) to deal some pain to Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). Check it out below.

“Eclipse” follows Bella Swan (Stewart) as she once again finds herself surrounded by danger. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob Black (Lautner) — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf.

The film hits theaters June 30. It was directed by David Slade (“30 Days of Night,” “Hard Candy”) and was written Melissa Rosenberg.

Summit Entertainment is planning to turn the fourth installment — based on Stephenie Meyer’s last book — into two films.
